Beauty Favourites | August

Last month, I shared some of my beauty favourites with Just My Look and you guys really liked it. I got lots of feedback on the metallic purple lipstick from LA Girl that I shared in the post. That lipstick is still a firm favourite, but I’ve got a few new additions in my makeup bag. Lip Dual Lipstick_Beauty_Leighton Denny_In the NudeWearing: Leighton Denny – In the Nude Lip Dual Lipstick

Beauty Favourites August1. Roxanne Campbell Nail Lacquer – Off to Jamaica

I’ve been playing with nail colours this summer – contrary to the plan of sticking to white all summer…well, since I’ve gone down that route, I said YES to a new brand – Roxanne Campbell. Corals and orange tones are quite nice on dark skin tone and this shade proves my point. You can see me wearing the nail varnish on Instagram.

2. Leighton Denny – In the Nude Lip Dual Lipstick

This lipstick is perfect for everyday wear and it’s my current go-to for work and casual days. The lip dual gives two choices of either a sheen or matte finish.

3. L.A.B.2 Just Face Kabuki Brush & Read My Lip Brush

I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the L.A.B.2 brushes. I’m not going to go on like a beauty pro, so for regular consumers like myself (non-MUAs), all I can say is the Kabuki brush feels like magic. This multi-tasking tool for powders is honestly a secret weapon to a flawless finish.

4. The Vintage Cosmetic Company Cuticle Nipper

Just because it’s rose gold, this cuticle clipper already won me over. True story, my cuticles grow almost at the speed of light, and yes I DIY my nails most of the time. I wonder why I never had one of these.

5. Pegasus Parfum No 39

…you know that feeling you get when you use something you haven’t used in a while and you are like ‘YES’, I remember why I got you in the first place. This fragrance is an oldie, but it still a HIT.

6. Pink Parcel Eyebrow Kit (monthly subscription)

I’ve always been a pencil kinda girl with my brows. Don’t judge me. I recently started playing with this eyebrow kit recently. It’s added on extra minutes to my make-up time, but I do like the result.

Beauty Favourites From Just My Look

Hey guys, it’s been a while since I did a post on makeup so here is a quick update for you.

Before I do, can I just say I had my first experience make-up shopping online. I’m very skeptical about colours on me, I’ve never made a purchase without doing a swatch. I’m that girl who sticks to similar shades of lipstick and hardly wears eyeshadow. However, browsing and selecting colours on Just My Look has opened a new cookie jar in the way I shop for makeup or beauty products. They literally stock most of the leading beauty brands and products at reasonably good prices.

So, beauty favourites from Just My Look, let me introduce you to my favourite new lippie, L.A Girl Matte Gloss in Stunner. I’ve seen and heard so much about matte lip glosses, so I finally decided to give it a go. I am a bit late on it right? But better late than never.

Opi Nail Varnish – Alpine Snow

Also, I’ve been playing with highlights a lot lately, thanks to Zena. I recently caught up with her and her highlight game was unreal. I decided to give the L.A Girl Highlighter Contour Stick (below) in Luminous a try. The highlight in the pictures above appears to be quite subtle – more like lowlight huh, but it’s more luminous in the sun. I wanted it to look a little bit more natural since I was going for a strong lip colour.

The setting powder is totally new to me. I’m so 2000andlate right?! With a few youtube videos, I’m sure I’ll know exactly what to do with it. I’m pretty excited to give all these new bits a go.

I’m open to suggestions and beauty tips. All you lovely readers who are pros or know one or two things about makeup, comment or drop me a line on twitter!

Summer Friendly Makeup Tips

Summer is debatably the best season. The weather is mostly gorgeous, and there’s a lot more to do. This means your makeup game needs to be on point if you’re going to have a good time and feel your best! These makeup tips are summer friendly, so try them out and see if they can make a difference to your routine

Foundation_Cover Fx_Clinique

Use A Lighter Foundation

Instead of using a heavy foundation, which is fine for winter, try switching to something lighter with less coverage. It can be nicer during summer to let your natural skin shine through, freckles and all! If you still need high coverage, try going for something nice and dewy to give your skin a sheen. When it comes to the shade, you might actually need a slightly darker shade for that summer time glow!

Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated during summer is a must for your makeup. Make sure your skin is always well moisturised, and drink lots of water. Your makeup will automatically look better when applied to a moisturised face, and the water will clear up your skin further.
Invest In A Great Highlighter

Highlighter is so popular these days, especially with techniques like strobing and highlighting. A great highlighter is a must for summer, as the light will reflect on your face and make you look like a shimmering goddess! Apply it to your cheekbones, nose, and maybe a tiny bit on your chin and brow bones. It’s up to you how much you apply. Sometimes subtle is best, but if you’re planning a big night out, you can be a little more liberal with it.

Experiment With Bright Colours

Summer is a brilliant time to experiment with bright colours. Try a bright eyeshadow colour or new lipstick shade. You can afford to try these things during summer, as winter is all about dark shades. Have fun with it. Try pastels, neons, and anything else that takes your fancy. You can find lots of choice with brands such as Violet Voss cosmetics.

Always Use A Primer

Use a primer all over your face before foundation, and make sure you use an eyeshadow primer too. This will keep your makeup on longer and keep it looking smooth, even in the summer heat. The sun can make makeup slide off and look worse for wear. So make sure you apply priming products to keep it in place. I currently use the Loreal Infallible Mattifying Base, it is affordable and it does the job.

Setting Spray

Setting spray is another great product for keeping makeup in place after you’ve finished. Some people just use hairspray, but there are many great setting sprays for the face these days that mean your makeup won’t budge. Just remember to have some good wipes and wash ready after a night out to remove it. Oily cleansers are best, but you need to choose based on your skin type.

These summer friendly makeup tips will help you to look incredible, whatever the weather this summer. Whether you’re heading to a festival, on holiday, or simply to a barbeque, you’ll look your best!
