Luxury Staycation in London | Duke’s Hotel Mayfair

A staycation is something I hardly ever get to do, can’t remember when last I had one…

If you remember this post How to transition your bedroom from summer to winter & Luxury Bedroom with Juliette’s Interiors, it was a challenge from Juliette’s Interior to design my dream luxury bedroom using some of their products. As it happened, they liked my post and I won the competition.

To cut the story short, they organized an overnight stay for 2, including breakfast at the Duke’s Hotel in Mayfair. I slotted in a suitable date and I dragged my husband along with me.

Duke's Hotel Mayfair

Duke’s Hotel Mayfair

A boutique hotel tucked right in the heart of Mayfair. A walking distance from Green Park and Piccadilly Circus so location is perfect if you want to get about and see a bit of London.

Promptly checked in at 2pm, set for a chilled time at the hotel and a little wander around London later in the day.

They do an amazing bottomless brunch from 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, considering I was there on a Saturday, this is something I would have loved to experience, but, sadly I missed out on it as we only finally got to settle in just after 3ish. An hour will be way too short to have tea, sit back and take it all in. Maybe some other time perhaps.

The room

Very cosy and comfortable, perfect for an overnight stay. Just think you are on a business trip or stop over and you want somewhere very descent to rest for the night. Or perhaps just in need of a staycation like myself. I must say, I fell in love with the marble bathroom.

Something I look forward to every time I stay in a hotel, it’s usually the highlight of my experience. If it’s good, then everything is perfect and I can say I’ve had an amazing time.

We went for breakfast pretty early as my husband had lots to do the next day. The breakfast room (GBR) is absolute perfection and the service we had was great. So, for breakfast, I had a delightful Smoked salmon, scrambled egg brioche and it was phenomenal. It was nicely washed down with a beetroot, apple, ginger and carrot juice which wasn’t half as bad either. I regret not having enough time to experience the bottomless brunch even more after the amazing breakfast :(.

Also, they do afternoon tea which I presume would be good too, judging by their breakfast. Definitely on my ‘to do list’ with my girls sometime.

Here is a short room tour video…

But all thanks to Juliette’s Interior for choosing me as the winner of their challenge and for organizing the staycation at Duke’s Hotel.

One Night Only | The Castle Hotel Windsor

I was recently invited to the launch party of the Castle Hotel Windsor a part of the Mgallery by Sofitel. I had the opportunity to spend a night as well as a  detailed tour of the beautiful hotel.

The recently renovated boutique hotel sits on Windsor’s quintessentially English Hight Street right opposite the Royal Guildhall and adjacent to the Windsor Castle, how perfect?

History & Cool Facts

While many may not be too concerned about the history of a hotel, I think a few fun facts is always a good idea, especially because Windsor is culturally rich and I am fascinated by a little bit of history.

It’s over 500 years old, started off as an Inn in the 1500s and is one of the oldest in Windsor

Grew popular in the 1600s The inn keeper started brewing his own ciders and beers

In the 1700s, the innkeeper was appointed as a Royal Warrant. The hotel was renamed the Castle Inn.

Nearby attractions include Windsor Castle, Windsor Guildhall, Legoland, Ascot and Royal Windsor racehorses.

The Duke of Wellington dined at the hotel after his victory at the Battle of Waterloo

You can watch the traditional Changing of the Guards of the Castle from the hotel’s bar

…And the Bedrooms?

The hotel has 108 bedrooms, five of which are exquisite suites. I spent the night in a cosy classic  room with soft lighting and a super comfy Queen size bed. The soft neutral colour palette provided a tranquil environment and a perfect atmosphere for a relaxing night – especially after spending the early part of my day at work and the later stuffing my face at the hotel’s launch party. The bathrooms were equipped with delicate and luxe smell of Lanvin products.

What else?

Food is a very crucial part for me and I was impressed by the variety of classic dishes the hotel offers. The à la carte menu is quintessentially English and traditional and I would go back for  the Gressingham duck  as well as the slow-cooked Pork Belly with Raisins and Rosemary Stuffing which is actually one of their signature dishes. During the launch party, guest enjoyed a buffet offering the variety of dishes served by the restaurant. For breakfast, a similar concept with a wide spread of options including croissants, scones, macaroons, fresh fruit juices etc and a menu for hot dishes as well. I missed out on afternoon tea where guests can enjoy a simple Cream Tea, a Highland Tea with cases and pastries or full indulgence in Clarence Tea with both savoury and sweet delicacies.

I was also impressed by the function room for weddings and ceremonies which hold up to I think 300 guests – I didn’t ask about prices, though.

Most of all, I was taken by the hotel staff. Right from when we drove into the car park right up to leaving the hotel, we received nothing short of a premium and excellent service and hospitality. We were allowed to leave our car in the car park after we had checked out whilst we took the opportunity to visit the Castle and have a wander around.

**This is an honest review and opinion of the hotel based on my experience. My stay at the hotel was complimentary.
