Preparing my wardrobe for spring/summer 14, I’m sure many people would be doing the same around this time of the year. I tend to carry a lot of stuff forward from previous seasons and only buy a few trendy pieces at the beginning of a new season, just so my wardrobe isn’t totally dated. Plus buying new stuff right at the beginning of the season kinda gets me excited about the entire season. It’s so easy to get carried away with all the new collections and right now, I’m trying to do the sensible thing by editing my shopping list from the high street. It’s hard, it’s very hard! I think it’s wise not just to buy trendy pieces, it’s great to tap into the current trend with new pieces, but also look out for clothes that would be wearable over a long period of time.
Here are some bits from my shopping edit…
Starting with a bright coloured blazer, I find it really easy to make the simplest of all outfits look dressed up by adding a bright coloured blazer, it always does the trick. Orange is one of the trendy colours to wear the season, but even when it isn’t so on-trend, it’s a great addition to the wardrobe. I think this piece from Oasis will work nicely. A – Oasis Cotton Blazer
The full midi skirt which I can’t get enough of. One of the main trends brought forward from SS13 to AW13 and now SS14. I couldn’t really get into it for AW but I’ll be wearing a lot of it this season. I’m loving this white patent skirt, white is one another colours I can’t get enough of at the moment. But how versatile is a patent white skirt going to be? Well in the name of fashion, this will be…this skirt is ACE! B – Warehouse Patent Full Midi Skirt
On a daily basis, I’m the type for dainty, clean, simple but stylish jewellery, although I still love a good statement piece. I recently came across Grand Bazaar London a jewellery brand, and I find most of the pieces unique and chic, perfect for summer days either dressed up or down. C – Grand Bazaar London ‘Bee’ Necklace, ‘Link’ Bracelet, Silver Rings.
Court shoes, they never go out of fashion really, do they? Colourful courts are so in and I know how much I can’t get enough of my cobalt blue and green pair, I need them in white, yellow, red…every colour! I particularly like these pink ones because the heels are just right, I’ve got enough high heels so going for some midi heels for longer wearability. D – Dune Pointed Toe Court Shoe
Print tees? Yes please! I’m loving the details on the sleeves on this one. E – French Connection French? T-shirt
I’ve always had a thing for waistcoats and pastel are back with a bang this spring summer (as they do every S/S). I found this gorgeous pastel pink waistcoat that will be perfect for every spring summer. A worthy investment no? F – Ted Baker Sleeveless Crepe Waistcoat
I think one of the best ways to wear animal prints is with accessories. Any animal print is ‘totally cool’ to wear regardless of the season, but since they are everywhere at the moment, it’s best to seize the opportunity. This snake print cross-shoulder caught my eye, I’m loving the patch work on it. G – Nine West Snake Print Bag from Kurt Geiger
The list could go on…but in a quick summary, this season’s wardrobe addition would include bright coloured blazers, full midi skirts, simple jewellery, colourful court shoes, print/graphic t-shirts and animal print accessories! Phew, now that I got that listed, I can go forth and shop.
