Hey guys, another lifestyle update…
About a month ago, I took part in a Mindful Eating Challenge. The decision to do this came around the same time I started taking my health a little more seriously; I signed up for a gym membership, started training with my friend who is also a personal trainer (you will be seeing more of this on the blog very soon) and of course, eating properly which is a HUGE part of this too.
Mindful eating is about enjoying your food by really sensing the tastes, textures, smells, the atmosphere and generally taking in as much of the moment in as possible. While you can mindfully eat junk food, healthy food could be enjoyed with mindfulness, along with the other benefits a good diet can have on the body.
I decided to give the challenge a try for a week, this involved using fresh ingredients and preparing my meals from scratch as well as avoiding junk food as much as I could. All easier said than done. I wouldn’t say I successfully completed all 5 days of cooking or totally cut out on eating chocolates, what I did was rationed the portions of the bad stuff I ate and made a conscious effort to eat healthier substitutes. Since the decision to start being healthier had already been established, it was easy to carry on with this after the challenge.
Being mindful of what you eat is a great way to kickstart a healthy lifestyle; and no, it’s not about starving yourself, counting calories or completely cut out on anything. You can actually read more about it in the L&G article here and let me know what you think.
