It takes a while for me to adjust to winter, when I say adjust, I mean mentally. It comes around and lingers on for ever but I seem to forget how cold it really gets until it hits again. I was chatting with a group of friends recently, it was during the couple days when temperatures took a sudden dive to minuses, of course we talked about the weather, fashion among other things, but mostly these two topics. The conversation went along the lines of how most women give up on their appearance during winter, while I’m not in support of this, I could easily see how this happens and YES, I have my days too. As a fashion blogger, I chimed in and said layering is the key to staying warm whilst looking stylish in winter. Not everyone is going to agree with this – taking shapes and sizes into consideration, it’s easy to look like an urban yeti, but I strongly there are ways to layer like a pro without compromising on style. I like winter fashion, I love wearing oversized knits, jumpers and playing with layers too.
Here are some tips
- Choosing a tight-fitting base layer as it traps air next to the skin and insulates the body from the cold. You could start with a vest or long sleeve t-shirt and then a jumper or sweater underneath your coat.
- This season, swap tights for high or over the knee boots, not only are they on-trend, they are also functional and far more stylish
- High necks, roll neck or turtle necks, whatever neck, they are winter wardrobe must-haves. Underneath the poncho, I was wearing a roll neck top for warmth since I wanted to do without a scarf.
- Belt it. Whenever I find myself borderline looking like a yeti, I go for the oldest trick in the book, a waist belt.
There are lots of other tricks or styling tips, but it’s hard to go wrong with these simple and basic tips.
