Hobbs London AW14 | Inspired By the Way Modern Women Dress Today


I attended the Hobbs AW14 press preview last week where the Senior Designer talked through the inspiration behind the new collection. It’s the closest encounter I’ve had with the brand which has resulted in me having a different opinion about them. Pre-encounter, I perceived Hobbs as a brand targeted towards a more mature audience, women above the age of 40 perhaps.  The autumn/winter 2014 collection from Hobbs London expands the narrow confines of day and eveningwear, the collection blends casual and formal to establish a contemporary dress code. The new collection is said to explore a newfound pragmatism inspired by the way modern women dress today.

With emphasis on easy elegance, this new aesthetic sees everyday essentials paired with occasion pieces and heritage fabrics lightly garnished with flattering luxe details. This gives way to laidback luxe.

I love the textures and fabrics seen in the outer wear, shearling, brushed wool, cashmere, and bouclé to mention a few. The winter neutral hues; granite, cream, camel and chocolate seen in the collection were given a fresh update by being worn tone on tone.

The pieces from the collection are justifiable investments, they are relevant for now as it is for tomorrow, and beyond. The video below captures the spirit of the season.

    I totally agree with what you said about the target audience. Hobbs had never been on my radar before, because I always thought it was for the mature woman. I couldn’t have been more wrong…some of the AW14 pieces were so quintessentially me 😀
