Trend Watch: Frills/Ruffles For Day Time

It's no news, ruffles have been lurking around for as long as I can remember, many designers have paid attention to this Victorian inspired detail by featuring a few frilly designs on their runway shows every season. But, is romance back in fashion? Flamenco frills and ruffled silhouette made prominent appearance in the SS16 runway shows. When we think frills, mind goes dressy, red carpet, evening or flamboyant looks, yes there was that, but also, a number of designers including Jason Wu, Alexander McQueen, Lanvin and Tome readdressed the frill situation, making them more appealing for day time. From frills on knits at Mother of Pearl to full on details at Tibi spring/summer 16 shows, surely, this feminine detail is indeed making a come back this year. Frills are a great way to add impact to simple summer staples, but will you go for full-on romantic ruffles, or simply flirt ...

My Fashion Kryptonite

I have a trigger that turns on my ‘quirky style’ button. Apart from my obsession with white tees, high-waisted jeans and recently discovered love for pastel pink, ruffles and bows are my fashion kryptonite. I’ve written about ruffles a number of times on the blog, but not bows. Bows and ruffles ignite a very childlike excitement...I know right?! These trousers were love at first sight. To be honest, I know they are not for everyone, but girrrll, a girl’s gotta buy what makes her happy and these make me happy. I happen to like this trouser more that I do some people. Ooops, did I just say that? A little 'spring-like' huh? Thou shall not be deceived, what you don't see here is the winter coat and blanket scarf I was wrapped up in to keep the darn cold out! As much as I like winter fashion, there is a tiny bit ...

Ruffled Jumper and Military Blazer

Ruffles on everything! I've always had a thing for ruffles or frills. It's the playfulness and fun vibe. My mum bought and often made me clothes with ruffles, bows and ribbons when I was younger, I guess that's where the love comes from. I must say, I am a repeat offender with this ruffled jumper, I already featured it once on the blog so no need for intro. I could pull an endless list of ruffled jumpers and tops I'm coveting right now, but I'll spare you guys. The French Connection jumper as per outfit is an oldie and currently sold out, but I'm totally in love with this other jumper, which my bank account says no to! In saying that, here are few looks as seen during on the AW16 runway shows. I particularly liked the knits from Mother of Pearl. !function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); = id; cb ...

The Ruffled Jumper

Ruffles got a chic makeover and I’m not shying away from the drama this trend is bound to create this season. SS16 fashion week saw many designers doing all sorts with it– from decorating hemlines to all-over garment tiering, it was pretty obvious that this feminine detail was coming back in full force. I’ve always been taken by the fun and playful side of fashion, ruffles definitely tick that box, it’s elegant, girly and an easy way to add impact to simple staples. On to THIS jumper which has put French Connection back on my radar. How pretty is the ruffled detail? I told the story of how I met THIS jumper. I’m pleased I bought it when I did, considering it’s actually from last spring/summer collection and hard to find in my size anymore. It’s pretty similar to one I fell in love with from the Mother of Pearl jumper SS16 ...
