Dress for the summer you want to have and who knows, it might just happen! Whether you dress to impress, to worship the sun or just to feel comfortable in the heat you don’t need a ledger chock full of essential fashion tips. Just open your hand. A little wider. Right, all you need are 3 little tips to start your summer with a fresh and refreshing bang rather than a wet pop.
When the dust settles, and your summer is well underway, you are going to wish that you had been better prepared for these lifestyle summer hacks. Get ahead of the curve, today.
Think carefully about your footwear choice. Right before the start of the heatwave is expected, ignore the shoes that you already have and buy new ones. This is not quite as extravagant as you might first think because the shoes you have are probably not fit for summer. Trust me on that one.
When you go to pick your shoes, start looking for ones that are one size larger than what you would normally wear. Don’t worry about looking like a clown, or tripping over your own shoes. You should always buy a size up ahead of hot weather because our feet have an annoying habit of swelling in hot weather.
That said, some materials are better than others for stretching. As a rule of thumb, if it mooed or grew then a half size might be fine. If it is man-made you might have to go a full size.
Speaking of materials…Think about what your clothes are made of too, because some materials are naturally ‘lighter’ than others. If you have your heart set on one of the gorgeous tunic dresses that you keep eyeing up, then you really need to make sure that it isn’t going to cook you like a chicken.
A very good option is linen. It is stronger than cotton, making everyday wear a breeze (perfect for a computer to cocktail kinda working girl), but is also a much better conductor of heat. Stupidly thin denim is an option too, but nothing is going to beat linen in summer – not even silk.
Don’t cook the contents of your handbag. As a kid, or precocious adult, have you ever put a crayon on top of a radiator just to see how it melts? Now, in the middle of the summer have you put your hand into your handbag only to find that you have been carrying a mini oven?
Depending on what your bag is actually made of, it can get stupidly hot in there and so can anything that you keep in it. This means keys, cell phone, make up, chewing gum… Melted chewing gum can wreak absolute havoc, by the way.
And there you have it – 3 small tips that can make or break an entire summer. Whatever you choose to do this summer, or the next, make sure you use adequate sun protection and above all else have fun.
